Biliary dyskinesia

Biliary dyskinesia is a disorder that affects a muscular valve in the gallbladder known as the sphincter of Oddi. This small circular muscle regulates the flow of bile from the gallbladder (and pancreas)? In patients with biliary dyskinesia the sphincter of Oddi becomes constricted, impeding the normal flow bile. This can result in severe upper abdominal pain, similar to the pain that patients with gallstones might feel.

  • Diagnosis: Your Bux-Mont physician will review your medical history and perform a test of your gallbladders function.
  • Treatment: Treatment will depend on the underling cause, but will often include medications.
