Gallstones

Gallstones can block the bile ducts that lead from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine. If a duct remains blocked for a significant period of time, serious infection and damage to the gallbladder, liver, or pancreas can occur.

  • Diagnosis: Abdominal pain, fever, jaundice (a yellowing of the skin) are all warning signs of a blocked bile duct. If gallstones are suspected, your Bux-Mont physician may perform an ERCP or ultrasound exam.
  • Treatment: Gallstones can be treated with medications and blocked bile ducts can be cleared by ERCP.
